Child Development Project
Matrikul 1: The First Project of Vikashalaya
Matrikul, an initiative by Vikashalaya and a unit of ARATI – a charitable and non-profit organisation registered in New Delhi, India in the year 2000, is not just a home but a transformative development centre for destitute children. Guided by our unwavering vision of creating a society inhabited by Nature-Integrated Humanity, we have embarked on a journey to empower children from the tender age of 3 to 5 years through nature-integrated development modules.
Our primary goal is to enable and empower these children, providing them with the necessary tools and nurturing environment to become the change-makers, leaders, and role models of tomorrow. It is our conviction that by instilling in them the values of nature integration, they will be able to effectively communicate with future generations and inspire them to foster a new world order.
Matrikul is designed to accommodate a maximum of 10 destitute children, carefully selected and nurtured by a dedicated team of working staff, volunteers, and nature-mentors. Under the guidance of a head-parent (or head-parents), who are trained and enabled through our central training cell, the children will receive individual attention and freedom to grow and flourish. Our committed team is directly monitored and supervised by the esteemed Vikashalaya Board of Trustees, ensuring the highest standards of care and development.
We aspire to establish a network of Matrikuls throughout India and beyond, all working in tandem towards our shared vision. The first Matrikul, located in Santiniketan, Birbhum, West Bengal, holds a special significance. It is nestled in the tranquil embrace of Mother Nature, drawing inspiration from the evergreen legacy set forth by the great philosopher and Nobel laureate, Rabindranath Tagore. Here, the first group of children will be nurtured and developed, paving the way for future epoch-makers.
Our building at Matrikul stands tall up to its first level. However, the finishing and furnishing of the same is yet to be accomplished. This building would be our first mother nature(matri) graced home(kul), which would house these destitute children and their foster parents (Matri-parents). The building stretches in an area of about 4500 sq. feet of land. The Inauguration Ceremony of FIRST MATRIKUL took place through a very humble Ceremony on 18 February 2023 at Fuldanga, Santiniketan from 10.30 am to 2.00 pm where local tribals, artist groups from Shantiniketan, members of Asit Ghosh’s alumni, volunteers, friends and wellwishers came from different parts of the country.
As we embark on this remarkable journey at Matrikul, we invite socially responsible citizens to join hands with us. Individuals and organisations can become ambassadors, members or volunteers of Vikashalaya, or may choose to contribute by sponsor a child, sponsor a project, sponsor a campaign, sponsor an event or donating funds for our building infrastructure or operations. Together, let us build a society that is deeply interconnected with nature, fostering a harmonious coexistence for generations to come.
